Our Dreams Come True: Officer Matt

Well, it was a long time coming, but my hubby is FINALLY commissioned. However, it is not at the correct level. There was a major screw up that many people missed that put him a level lower then what he was supposed to be (which means so much more in the military world then one would think - not counting the huge amount of money we are out until it gets fixed). He was heartbroken yesterday when everyone finally figured it out... but being the amazing man that he is, he didn't let it get him down that much. He was sad and disappointed, but on the flip side, he will probably go down in the history books as the quickest promotion in the history of the Air Force. :)

Today was the commissioning ceremony. His recruiter drove 5 hours to come down here and attend the ceremony. It was nice. His new boss read him the oath and Matt repeated. He was so cute and nervous. All the current residents were in the room with us (totally unexpected and so nice!). Then there was a nice speech about how great Matt is and what a mess this whole screw up is, but how wonderfully he handled it. Then his boss and I got to pin him with his bars (even though they were the wrong ones). Lots of pictures, lots of clapping and lots of paperwork - and he is now officially a reserve in the Air Force. He doesn't become active duty until he reports for his training at the end of the month. He was been so smiley the rest of the day. I am so so proud of him!! Here are some pics of the event:
