So for those that haven't been following along with us on Xanga, we thought we would write a little summary of our lives together so far. We were married on June 10th, 2006. Matt is working on finishing up his PhD in clinical psychology, and up until recently I worked at a local hospital as a process management consultant, which I loved. I now work from home for a consulting company and am getting used to this new job. Last March we found out we were pregnant with our first baby and were so incredibly excited. At our 12 week appointment, we found out our little baby had some major problems. She had a very large cystic hygroma (fluid on the neck) and ascites (fluid on the abdomen which is a sign of heart failure). We lost our little girl on May 28, 2009. We found out a few weeks later that she was in fact a girl and she had a genetic abnormality called Turner Syndrome. We spent the rest of 2009 heartbroken and sad. We found out Christmas morning that we were pregnant again. We were nervous and scared, but also getting more excited as the weeks went on, hoping that 2010 was going to be better than 2009. We heard our little Pickle's heartbeat at a 6 week appointment, but at the 8 week appointment (a week ago today) there was no longer a heartbeat. So, now we are in the waiting game of letting nature take it's course. And we are heartbroken once again. We learned a few things from the last time we went through this and that is part of the reason this blog was started. Too few people really understand what it is like to lose a baby (or two) and I don't think we did very well communicating our sadness last time, which lead to a lot of hurt feelings on our part when people didn't "get it." We want to do better this time - as much as we can. For me, I have a hard time expressing what I am feeling out loud. I am much better writing it down, so this blog is partly intended to be our method to express to our family and friends what we are going through. And to express how much we need you and appreciate your support, even if we don't always say it or show it.
Our babies are Peanut and Pickle. Peanut is our first daughter, and Pickle is the baby we are currently saying goodbye to. Why the "weird" names? Well, we started calling them both their respective names before we knew anything was wrong. And, they have stuck. In our minds, it keeps them innocent and it was also who they were to us... They are our sweet babies in heaven and we miss them desperately each and every day.
You are beautiful and I love you more each day!
ReplyDeleteDearest Katie and Matt,
ReplyDeleteMy heart once again is full of love and awe for the 2 of youth; love because the 2 of you have more love for each other than any two individuals I have ever known. Love because you opened your hearts to 2 beautiful angels who would have had the best Mommy and Daddy little ones could ever hope to have. Your love for each other will see you through this chapter in your lives as it has in previous chapters. Continue to open your hearts and souls to each other in the months and years to come. I am in awe of you both because you have the "perfect" relationship and have ever since you began dating. You know each other's every thought and are so dedicated to one another. That love is a gift from
God just as the babies were. Please know my thoughts and prayers have been with you and will continue to be. One of these days you will be blessed with a child to love and nurture. God will never give you more to handle than you are able to. Your hopes and dreams will be met but until that day arrives, hold tight to the thought that you are loved by so many friends and family.
Lean on us for anything you need. Please take care of each other. This blog is a great way to communicate...thanks for including us. I love you both!
Mary Beth
